Thought about T-shirt thingy... "Place Your Brand", I think is the best. Another option could be the famous Bush phrase, "Shame On You!". Let me know what you think.
Dude, I've got no idea what you're doing, but isn't 'place your brand' kind of, you know, gay? I mean all of that fucking no logo, blackspot shit is becoming a logo in itself. It's like you're walking down the street saying 'I'm so good that I'm not wearing any brands by having the 'no logo' brand on all of my clothes.' Exactly.
Damn~~. Chill.. Relax... It's only a %*&%ing T-shirt, 'Dude'... If you like, we're happy to make one for you...'Dude'... One with 'DUDE' written on the back...(as seen on TV)... You gots to chill...listen to EPMD...
Hey, no matter how intimidating what I wrote is it raised a point. You're just being an ass. Besides, what are you dissenting against? Branded shirts? Yeah, well...
I think what real art is trying to get at is that the whole idea of rebellion against brands has become just that; another brand. Take Adbusters for example, they were spoofing brands for fun now they've released their own blackspot brand, a complete rip off of connies except for the fact that they're not made in sweat shops. You've got to be aware of what you're doing. So what you're making a shirt. It's not about the object, it's the idea and your reasoning behind it.
i don;t think we're trying to create a new anti-brand brand like blackspot or nologo, but to have a simple message on a t-shirt that dissents against everyone being branded. And in making it for our group, and if we wear them regularly and together, then it is a ironic statement of a new branding. But we're aware of that irony and we're not about to sell the t-shirts or market them as a brand. I think 'insert brand here' is more direct than 'place your brand', but both are quite obvious, and although may provoke discussion, are perhaps not as subtle as what we're trying for? Perhaps something symbolic...?
i just love the tension, can you feel it? mmm... i'm feeling voyeuristic tendancies, is it the same in this situation? forget the t-shirts, i think its kind of gay too. it is the thought, not the object. make sure you get your interpretations right kiddies ~
Exactly piper, it's all about the thought. Thanks for that bit of enlightenment ben, I understand where you're coming from now. But you know, fuck the shirts, they don't mean anything. All they do is let you show other people that you've thought about something. And the tension, ah the tension. Beautiful stuff it is, like fertiliser. So don't let me catch you wasting it suckers. You want to call yourself dissenters? All you're doing right now is fussing about what you're going to put on a shirt. It's just a fucking shirt for god's sake. How about dissenting against yourselves, against your own beliefs?
Ok... The t-shirt idea might be lame and might not be that significant (or even something that's way out of our direction of thoughts). But it's somewhere to start and all the people in the group are trying to put some thought into it. I think the fact that people are puting some thought into it and meditating on what we are trying to do, is the point of whole this 'fucking t-shirt' thingy. It's just to get things started. And thanks for criticizing and let us know about what you are thinking. But you don't have to be that hostile. I respect that you might have a better understanding and criticism towards these matters. But you need to respect us as fellow students, not as kiddies or first years. Anyway, those of you who don't know EPMD , they're the MCs who sang the classic DefJam song 'You gots to chill'.
Yeah, that's sweet dude. Don't mean any disrespect, sorry if it looked like that. We've done a t-shirt thingy like that before for studies, didn't really do anything for us because we were like "Man, this sucks." But I guess if we thought about what it meant a bit harder it wouldn't have sucked as much. You're actually thinking about what you're doing. I think it was all one big mind trip for us. So yeah, you're doing good stuff.
feel the love, just feel the love. ahhh. anyway, i agree with brandon, this t-shirt thingo is a way for us dissenters to get started as a group, and have something to show for it. at least we're trying something! :) I think we can reflect on it later and decide that we weren't thinking it through, but for now, if we just get something done and it'll be done...? get what i mean - i'm just keen to start... i wish more people would post their opinions - c'mon dissenters!!!
Hey folks, The T-shirt idea is ok, and i now i was for it at the start... but it seems to me that soumitri is trying to get us to stop us from always aproaching things the same way, and it seems to me that the t-shirt idea might just be a bit of an easy option. maybe we should do the t-shirts as just something to get us started, but then get into so A little more crazy...
Is the t-shirt thing all you're doing this semester? We did ours in like a week, spent at least five or six classes, 3 hours mind you, reading shit that we didn't care about (at least I didn't at the time) all while producing something to present that documented our journey at the end. And that was only half the semester, then we had to do it all over again.
Oh, that's sweet. I wish they gave us a bit more freedom last year. Have you thought about what this bigger thing is or are you still trying to workout the shirts?
Im still kinda trying to get my head around what it is that we are actually spost to doing... Iv been thinking we should have an event of some kind... i really cant see any kind of product design fitting this project, for the moment anyway

I hated first year studies. So good on you guys for getting stuck into it.

Hahaha, you put it there just to piss them off. Shame on you piper. Nah. And yeah, the t-shirts are fine, anything's better than nothing.

Nah, we were only planning on doing this shirt thing as quick little project while we figure out what we want to do.
Oh, that's sweet. I wish they gave us a bit more freedom last year. Have you thought about what this bigger thing is or are you still trying to workout the shirts?
